The 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard “Pearly Gates” was Gibbon’s first Les Paul guitar. Gibbons favors a consistent sound and plays around with different amps as well as vintage pedals that he finds reliable for producing this sound. Gibbons picked up his first guitar in 1963 and has gained praise from the likes of Hendrix. He has been a member of many bands such as Moving Sidewalks and Revolting Cocks but is best known for being a member of the Texas blues-rock band ZZ Top. Musician Billy Gibbons has been playing the guitar for over four decades now. He has used many guitars in his career – from gold-top Les Pauls to custom-built Jim Bolins and early Fender models. However, his most famous guitar has got to be the “Pearly Gates” 1959 Gibson Les Paul, which he played through a 100w Marshall amp. Billy Gibbons owns some 450 guitars in his rig.
